Helen Adams Keller, born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, was the first of two daughters and had two older stepbrothers. Her mother, Katherine Adams Keller, and her father, Arthur H. Keller, a Confederate Army veteran, earned their income from a family cotton plantation. Helen worked hard in her life to overcome the many challenges that she faced.
